Zamora has several historic attractions, monuments, cultural centers and natural areas. It is a town with several villages. | Morelos Public Market

Given the need for Zamora with a place to trade, the Town Hall meeting on October 12, 1907, it was decided to build a market for the city, and the "Mercado Morelos" born in 1912. Plans and designs of the work were made by Mr. Philippe Serrano, a native of Mexico City.

| Cathedral of Zamora

The cathedral was the attempt of four parish churches, first a modest church that operated from 1574 in the village, then another in 1580 which changed the original location, and the ruin that was it, in 1681 began a new construction.

 

In 1840 began the construction of the new parish through the Dr. José María Cabadas, because since 1828 the former was in ruins. In 1911 it was rebuilt after the damage suffered by an earthquake, since then still standing, and without changes in its architecture. | Federal Palace (Old Bishop's Palace)

A neoclassical building dating from 1904, began its construction under the leadership of Bishop Fernández and was completed to 1909, acquiring its final profile in 1911, with Bishop Núñez.

 

The building served as home of the bishops for a short period and since 1914 has been used for various purposes, now in its interior there are government offices. Its design follows the old rules that were to have room around one or two yards, protecting its entry portals. | The Church of San Francisco

The church of San Francisco is a small colonial church built in 1791 by the first Catholic missionaries to arrive in the Tziróndaro Valley. The Franciscans began their work of evangelization in 1716.

 

The original building burned and was rebuilt again by changing its frontispiece only because of its slender tower was saved. Inside there are six beautiful paintings Don Luis G. Jasso, a native of Zamora. The paintings represent scenes from the birth of Jesus.

| Chirch of the Lord of Health. Calvary Church

As a chapel donated by Don Antonio Delgado in 1686 the people of San Francisco de Los Tecos (today Teco's neighborhood), inside image of Lady of Health, Towards 1710 the chapel was rebuilt and then demolished in 1829.

In 1837 the first Mass was officiated after its third

building.

 

In 1951 the vestry and burned in 1965 after a fire caused severe damage, he made new arrangements.

Today, the temple has many beautiful sculptures and wood-size: Lord of Health, the Lord of the Sacristy, the Sorrows, San Juan Evangelista, the Immaculate Conception, La Soledad, La Virgen de la Merced, San Miguel and San Nicolas.

|Church of Virgen del Carmen

The origin of this temple was a chapel dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua, the cementery that was located in the Carmen's neighborhood.

 

The construction of the chapel began on August 26, 1845 by order of Don Antonio Peña, future first bishop of Zamora. Cult took until early 1900, after the federal intervention it fell into ruin and abandonment.

 

Father Serrato received permission to demolish the chapel and begin building a new church on October 6, 1930. Neorrománico Italian style is based on several models of chapels in Europe, worth seeing its interior decoration.

|Theater of the City & Regional Center for the Arts

The building was inaugurated on January 19, 1913, as the Catholic Workers' Recreation Center, It had 10 rooms and for games of billiards, chess, dominoes and a library, reading room, among others.

 

At the center of the main courtyard was built the conference room and entertainment in the form of a horseshoe, whose dimensions were 37 x 23 meters, consisted of a courtyard, seats, two sets of boxes, a scene of 14 meters wide.

 

In 1995 after years of neglect and deterioration, we began the restoration work. Since then, the theater has regained some of its luster and is home to many musical events, like the jazz festival and concerts of high quality

| Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (temple of worship)

Temple designed by the master mason John Zaragoza in the year 1892, is composed of three large ships that do not yet have it with towers and a spike in the place of the dome.
