The Franciscan priest Jacobo Daciano,
brother to Christian II, also known as
Christian El Tirano, king of Sweden and
Denmark 1520 - 1521, arrived to New Spain
(Mexico). Jacobo Daciano became an important
defender of the Indigenous Peoples rights
and insisted on their right to become
priests and to receive the sacraments.
His standpoint created a serious conflict
between him and the Franciscan order,
and Jacobo was punished for his views.
Jacobo Daciano is still profoundly venerated
by the Purépecha people in Michoacan.

The first stop will be the Sanctuary of
Guadalupe, a monumental building of neo-Gothic
style, it is considered the 14th largest
Cathedral in the World, symbol of powerful
influence of Catholic faith in this region.
The second stop will be the Museum of
Anthropology and History of Jacona, to
discover more about this enigmatic Franciscan
priest. The third stop will be the Cistercian
monastery.
Finally you will visit Tarecuato, a typical
town located in the mountains, the local
people is popular for their Fair of the
atole or "maiápita" in
eves of the Domingo de Ramos. There you
will visit the main temple and old Franciscan
Monastery built in in the XVI century,
you will learn more about this legendary
monk named Jacobo Daciano. He achieved
fame amongst the Indigenous Peoples of
Michoacan for being a righteous and helpful
man towards his flock. His relics, now
lost, were kept for a long time by the
Indians of Tarecuato who still celebrate
his birthday every year.
