TOUR OVERVIEW


The Cristero War (also known as the Cristiada) of 1926 to 1929 was an uprising against the anti-Catholic Mexican government during the time of President Calles which was a well known a atheist. This conflict was triggered by the anti-clerical amendments of the Mexican Constitution in 1917.

 

Your tour into the past will include many stories and legends of this most beautiful and tragic period. Your first stop will be the old train station, the point of departure for many local travelers at that time, it was also the central point of military activities during the armed conflict. Your second stop will be the sanctuary of Guadalupe a neo-gothic style temple which ceased construction in 1914 and was not in use until recently. There you will visit the wall dedicated to the martyrs, this part of the temple is the only section that was left as honor of those who gave their lifes defending their faith. The third stop will be the museum of anthropology and history of Jacona to learn more about this religious movement.

 

The tour will continue until Tarecuato and Tingüindín, forced step of the Cristeros and the Agraristas. You will return to Zamora downtown, with last scale in the Historical Center. Free food options to choose.
